Two slightly different interpretations of a crucifix project. Which one do you prefer?

Martin of Tours was a soldier in the Roman army. He had a vision and one day as he came across a scarcely dressed beggar, he cut his cloak in half and gave it to the man.

“Lord, if your people still have need of my services, I will not avoid the toil. Your will be done. I have fought the good fight long enough. Yet if you bid me continue to hold the battle line in defense of your camp, I will never beg to be excused from failing strength. I will do the work you entrust to me. While you command, I will fight beneath your banner.” (St. Martin of Tours, Bishop and Confessor, Patron Saint of Soldiers)

The mold and the molded figure, or the producer and the produced. The mold is Virgin Mary holding the death molded figure, Jesus. The relationship between the producer and the produced insinuates a process of self-reproduction in which elements of biological gender are eliminated. It represent the contradiction of human existence and religious hypocrisy, the dark savageness of human society and civilisation…..

I saw this piece at the Venice biennale in 2011 and I really liked it so I thought I’d share it with you.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

According to Wikipedia: The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, repentance of sins, alms-giving, atonement and self-denial.

We all know what it means but seem to have forgotten what it really means… Sure the fasten and all that may seem like an incredible huge challenge, even more so for a Sommelier and wine lover like myself. And the 40 days seem like a bloody eternity to me. Not speaking about the food we have to cut back… But lets face it, is it really that hard? If we put our minds into it and acknowledge what life is giving us every single day we should be able to pull it off. Don’t you think? We take everything for granted and have stopped appreciating what lies in front of our eyes, especially the most mundane things, like food and wine for instance.

“Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, to shake us from our lethargy.” Pope Francis

So what luxuries are you giving up for this Lent? I would love to hear it, no matter how small or big the challenge!

As John Keats puts it: “Nothing ever becomes real till it is experienced.”
